The Delhi State government has decided to set up a world-class skill development centre at Jaunapur which will be developed as a national centre of excellence for skill development in the fields of healthcare, medicine, construction and manufacturing. It will be set up at Jaunapur in collaboration with the Singapore government.
The state will soon sign an MoU with the Government of Singapore. “The initiative will go a long way in overcoming the mismatch between employment opportunities and the skills of job seekers,” chief minister Sheila Dikshit said after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
A proposal to set up the centre was presented before the Cabinet on Tuesday after consultations with the Government of Singapore, Central Skill Development Mission and other stakeholders. The Institute of Technical Education, Singapore, has been instrumental in the setting up of such institutes in more than 10 countries apart from conducing training workshops.
As many as 2,400 seats will be up for grabs during the first academic year of the new facility. A sum of Rs 11.72 crore has been sanctioned for the project. The centre will facilitate employment opportunities apart from enhancing specialized human resources.
